“SANTO CRISTO DEL CAPANAPARO” CATHOLIC PARRISH
In 2007, we promoted the construction of a small catholic church called “Misión Santo Cristo del Capanaparo” in the town of La Macanilla, the only town in our principal area of influence . On May 2022 the chruch was given the rank of parrish.
It is the only catholic church in the area and was designed by a renowned architect, Frank Balbi who presented this project at an architecture fair in Milan, Italy. It’s design is especially adapted to the hot climate of the area with beautiful colored glass windows and a wood figure of Christ at the Altar (Cristo del Capanaparo).
It is also a Mission in the heart of an indigenous town where family and community values are constantly promoted and taught by priests and seminarians from the San Fernando Diocese, while respecting ancestral tribal traditions. Sports, such a soccer, and cultural events are also organized by the Mission even with other religious groups of the area. In addition, the Mission premises have been used from time to time for medical and health events organized by other non for profit organizations with the help of ASOPICA.
